Stress Engineering Services Piping Designer in Houston, Texas

The Piping Designer is responsible for Piping Design Department deliverables including 3D Piping Models, Piping Isometrics, Pipe supports, General Arrangement Drawings and Plot Plans within the company providing piping design services for refineries, chemical plants, mid-stream gas processing facilities and utilities systems. Execute deliverables and piping scope of work under the direction of the Manager of Piping Design. Promote the company’s goals and strategies with employees and clients. Incorporate deliverable piping engineering processes and procedures and manage the implementation and refinement. Participate as a member in the development and execution of an Engineering Department high performance team focused on values of safety, quality, ethical behaviors, customer satisfaction and confidentiality. Develop and implement continuous improvement processes. May be assigned to work as a Lead Piping Designer on a project.

  • Maintain strict compliance and technical support with Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes and procedures as well as EH&S

  • Support the Lead Piping Designer reporting needs supporting Project Controls Department estimates, deliverable credits, schedule development, schedule implementation and change documentation

  • Assure all piping design and equipment layouts meet client specifications

  • Assure all piping design meets company standards and applicable codes including API, ASME and others used in piping design and development for refineries, petro/chemical, mid-stream gas processing facilities and utilities systems

  • Communicate and interface openly and frequently with the Lead Piping Designer, Project Managers, Project Engineers and other Managers of discipline engineers and participate in periodic project reviews and clients discussions, as required, to ensure client satisfaction

  • Develop and implement continuous improvement process / lessons learned with staff, clients and contractors

  • Assure accuracy of Material Take-Off (MTO) quantities for subcontractor and procurement purposes

  • Assist to lead and effectively motivate and inspire a multi-cultural team

  • Support as required a Piping Design team supporting the proposal efforts and participate actively in Winning Projects

  • Aid in the preparation of a project schedule for delivery of design basis and drawing releases

  • Implement and adhere to the Basic Engineering Design Document (BEDD) document for each project

  • Prepare performance evaluations for staff employees as required by company policy

  • Promote value engineering and technical review through periodic reviews of all piping deliverables

  • Assist and check all Piping engineering deliverables from modeling tools

  • Develop and implement regular training sessions for staff technical development

  • Provide technical expertise to vendors during face-to-face meetings including other discipline managers as required

  • Assist with the Procurement Department of materials and review and approval of vendor documents prior to final sign-off

  • Participate in 3D model review with other disciplines as well as clients ensuring the quality of the 3D model and compliance with the P&ID’s

  • Develop a close working relationship with the all Engineering Department assuring excellent communications establishing an clear and concise understanding of the process flows

  • Prepares isometric drawings for construction with material specifications and details for shop and/or field fabrication

  • Execute studies

  • 5+ years of Piping design experience in refining, petro/chemical, mid-stream gas processing and utilities preferred

  • A Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering is preferred

  • Computer modeling skills are required (AutoCAD 2013, Cadworx, nausiworks.)
