Supervises and coordinates activities of associates engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments, and preparing items for shipment by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules. Review schedules to ensure that ensure that all shifts and loads are adequately covered in order to consistently exceed the expectations of our customers.
Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
Determines space requirements and position of shipment in boxcars and trucks and lays out position of product.
Determines routing of trucks, according to established schedules.
Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications.
Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair. Maintains vehicle maintenance report.
Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.
Compiles records of unfilled orders. Posts weight and shipping charges. Prepares bills of lading.
Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.
Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.
Prepares composite reports from individual reports of subordinates.
Adjusts errors and complaints.
Oversee and coordinate daily operations with the customer and with each driver.
Meet with drivers each day to understand the expectations of the upcoming day and week.
Educate and continually focus on our safety culture with each driver and ensure compliance with state and federal DOT regulations.
Train drivers on company policies and procedures and monitor compliance.
Conduct safety training and performing safety observations;
Lead shipping associates as well as drivers, including serving as coach and counselor regarding professional development and when situations arise that affect employee’s job performance;
Schedule shipments and dock times, and dispatching loads.
Establish work practices, and training shipping associates.
Purchase materials, parts, and supplies as required.
Conduct regular meetings with all associates to provide quality and performance feedback, address operating issues, provide training, and work on continuous improvement projects.
Implement quality improvement and cost reduction ideas.
Manage trailers for optimum utilization and proactive maintenance.
Take and maintaining accurate inventories;
Ensure that associates perform required inspections and tests;
Prepare and maintaining accurate records;
Maintaining teamwork with other associates;
Maintaining work areas to plant standards of housekeeping; and
Performing other duties as assigned by the manufacturing manager.
Experience in the corrugated or converting industry is preferred.

Strong Leadership, organizational and communication skills are required. Two or more years of supervisory experience. Thorough knowledge of DOT rules and regulations. Good computer skills - programs used excel, word, route GPS, online DOT logs. Bachelor's degree (B. A.); or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Flexible and able to rotate shifts as needed/required.
