To inspect construction projects, ensure site compliance, administer and monitor contracts, review plans and specifications, to respond to question of concern from the public, contractors and businesses, an to preform a variety of technical task related to assigned area of responsibility. Receive general supervision from Chief Public Works Inspector/Public Works Director. Essential and Marginal Functions Inspect city project in conjunction with the installation of water, sewer storm drainage and other construction projects. inspect new sub division with regards to water, sewer, storm drainage, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, catch basins, street and sub grading and stone base and street paving. Inform contractors of deviations and errors. Coordinate the work of contractors with regards of specific City owned projects, investigates encroachments of city right of way, inspect street cuts made for utility made for utility purposes by outside utility companies or contractors. inspect materials received by contractors at project site to determine weather or not it meets required specifications. Inspect foundations, concrete, steel masonry and a large variety of other complex and routine construction elements. Conduct necessary testing for streets, water lines and sanitary sewer and subgrade inspections. respond to questions form general public and other departments regarding construction projects. maintain accurate files and records. Investigate complaints concerning defective construction and installations, explain and interpret requirements and restrictions. Explain plans, blue prints and other specifications for construction projects, photo and video construction area prior to and following construction. Maintain contract drawing to ensure that they are upgraded regularly to include contractor's changes field or plan changes. Assist surveyor's and engineers in gathering data, maintaining daily records of quantities installed in proper diary. review contractor pay requests and recommend approval to engineer. Estimate time, equipment and material for required jobs. assure adherence to safe work practices and procedures. Marginal functions: May preform constructability reviews, construction contract inspections, field inspections and technical investigations for new field construction. Respond to inquiries in a respectable manner Preform related duties and responsibilities as assigned Ability to: Interpret and explain department policies and procedures operate a variety of hand and mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner. Operate a computer and related software. Preview plans review and construction inspection. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection technics Interpret and apply Federal, State and local laws, policies and regulations. Respond to highly sensitive inquiries Education and training guidelines: 2 years increasing responsible construction experience is preferred. High school diploma/GED Ability to obtain a drivers license with in the first 6 months of employment. Working conditions: Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or physical hazards. travel from site to site, inclement weather conditions, able to work at heights on scaffolding and ladders, some inspection of confined spaces.
